Characteristics of use of OptiTrack motion capture technology in film and animation production

• Realistic motions: when actors put on motion capture clothes, mark points on the clothes are captured by the camera, converted into digital motion information, and then given to their digital doubles.
• Faster production: production of animation by animators with traditional method is slow, distorted and expensive.
• Lowered cost: traditionally, it takes 6 to 7 months for 7 to 8 studios (each of which has at least 8 senior animators) to complete the animation of a film. With motion capture technology, however, the same amount of work can be done by 3 motion capture artists (people who use motion capture technology) and 6 animators in less than 2 months.
• Unleashing creativity: as software and hardware is upgraded, motion capture technology recognizes and assigns actor’s movement to the digital double instantaneously and changes scenes, effects and angle of view freely. As such, director and cameraman has plenty of room to test different ideas for making better movie in terms of story line, camera movement and special effects.
